چکیده

In random access protocol for packet communications, it is widely assumed that the collision between packets results in irrecoverable destruction of the packets involved. This assumption is overly pessimistic for packet radio networks since it does not consider the effect of capture in radio channels. Capture effect is the phenomenon by which when radio nodes of unequal powers transmit simultaneously, the transmission with higher power is received correctly. In this paper, the effect of capture on the throughput performance of an Optimum Channel Utilisation Multiaccess (OCUM) protocol based on the busy tone concept for fully connected Packet Radio Networks(PRN) is analysed. The throughput performance for two classes of users with different transmit power levels is studied through Markov chain analysis. The analytical expressions for channel throughput, idle rate and collision rate are derived and the numerical results are highlighted. The simulation results are found to agree well with the analytical results.

Effect of Propagation and Processing Delays on the Throughput Performance of a Class of Multiaccess Protocol for High Speed Radio Lans

In this paper, we present the design and throughput performance of a multiaccess protocol applicable to fully connected and homogeneous High Speed Radio LANs. The protocol utilises a slotted message channel and an independent busy tone channel. The messages constitute multiple data packets and each packet occupies one slot duration. To study the throughput performance of the protocol a simulati...

Analysis and Evaluation of a Decentralized Multiaccess MAC for Ad-hoc Networks

In mobile ad-hoc radio networks, terminals are mobile and heterogeneous, the architecture of the network is continuously changing, communication links are packet oriented and radio resources are scarce. Therefore, mechanisms on how to access the radio channel are extremely important in order to improve network efficiency and, when needed, to guarantee QoS. However, due to these network harsh co...

Decentralized multiaccess MAC protocol for ad-hoc networks

In ad-hoc radio networks, mechanisms on how to access the radio channel are extremely important in order to improve network efficiency and, when needed, to guarantee QoS. Traditionally, Medium Access Control (MAC) protocols in ad hoc networks have been designed to face off the well known collision resolution problem. However, when using advanced signal processing techniques, general assumptions...
